Random football position picker
Every position on the pitch, on a wheel. Spin for where you are playing and no arguments about it. Best used on the lads who have never tracked back in their lives.
Type, paste or delete to change the wheel. It redraws as you go, and your list is kept on this device only. Up to 200 entries.
How coaches actually use it
- Spin each player a position at the start of a training game, keeper included.
- Tick Remove the winner after each spin so you end up with one of each rather than six strikers.
- The default wheel has two centre backs, two centre midfielders and two strikers on purpose, so eleven spins give you a whole team.
- For five a side, delete it down to five positions first.
- Let the squad watch the spin. Half the value is the reaction when the striker gets goalkeeper.
Why it is worth doing on purpose
Players learn more about their own position by playing somebody else's for an hour than from being told about it. A striker who spends a session at centre back finds out exactly how annoying their own movement is, and a centre back who has to finish a chance stops being quite so loud about missed ones.
It also breaks the habit where the same eleven players occupy the same eleven slots for a whole season, which is comfortable and makes for very predictable training.
Weighting it, and other sports
A position that appears twice gets two wedges and is twice as likely to come up. That is how the default wheel produces a realistic shape, and you can lean on it harder: put Goalkeeper on once and Striker on four times for a session that is mostly about finishing.
The entries box is only a list, so it works for any sport. Clear it and type in rugby, netball or hockey positions and the wheel does the same job.
Keep the forfeits honest
Position roulette tends to produce a few fines. Anybody who refuses to go in goal, complains for the whole session, or quietly swaps with a mate when the coach is not looking is a prime candidate, and the Fine Club app is where that gets recorded and totalled up.

FAQ
Questions about the wheel
What positions are on the wheel by default?
A full eleven: a goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, two wingers and two strikers, with centre back, centre midfield and striker each appearing twice so the shape comes out realistic. Delete any line to take a position off.
How do I make sure we end up with one of each position?
Tick Remove the winner after each spin. Each position comes off the wheel as it is drawn, so eleven spins give you eleven different positions.
Can I use it for five a side?
Yes. Delete the entries down to the five you want, usually a keeper, two defenders and two attackers, then spin per player.
Does it work for rugby or netball?
Yes. Clear the entries box and type in that sport's positions, one per line. The wheel has no idea what the words mean, so it works for any list.
